If you have any questions about some of the items, lmk! By the way, use this size chart here (since the Dark Bloom collection uses an updated size chart and runs a bit smaller compared to the Peony and Mermaid ones)

Screen Shot 2016-11-16 at 9.39.13 PM

I’m a size 4 (32A) in their bras and a size 6 (hip size 37-38″) in their bottoms for the Peony collection

I’m adding some items to my cart, too 😉

Screen Shot 2017-03-20 at 11.48.00 AM

I sized up the Set the Bar bra because they tend to run a little bit smaller.

Pictured below are some Peony collection items that I’ve previously reviewed: Swan tank in Navy, POP short in Peony, and Pointe leggings in Snow White)

Silver Linings: POP Instructor thoughts

Yesterday was…an interesting day. But I think this quote is the perfect representation of yesterday:

pic1546516

Here is the dark gloomy part of the cloud:

So yesterday’s POP Pilates class left me feeling a bit discouraged. Only 4 people showed up (two newbies, two regulars)! And it felt like such a mess because I think the lack of people threw my game off. I spent the week before preparing some new tracks, visualizing a nice group of 10-12 people dying together during the 100’s track. What’s funny is that even though I prepared so much for this class compared to other classes–I just felt so off. My cues were wobbly, and some of the tracks were a bit faster for my new students. I hope they didn’t walk away discouraged. However, I did talk to one of them and let them know if they have any suggestions on how to make their experience better to let me know, so I’m hoping that helped. It’s tough. My goal is to get 20 people attending my class, so comparing that with the number of people who showed up yesterday is kinda sad. I’ve

There are too many doubts running through my head.

Is it because of me? Did I make it too hard and not give enough modifications? Did I scare people away? Is it because it’s spring break?  Is it because I only teach once a week?

And here is the silver linings part:

Even though there were fewer people than last week, I feel like it gave me a little more freedom and more time to talk to my students. What’s nice is that the two regulars (a couple) told me that they really enjoy POP and have been attending my classes for three weeks now. The guy also said that now he knows he should do POP before working out, rather than after because now he knows how much of a real workout it is! So that was really cool. Honestly, I just hope the four people who did show up had a good time. The couple said they were going to be back next week, so yay! I need to find a way to get more regulars lol.

0238

And overall, I need to focus on the positives. I’m planning on asking the front desk to announce my class next time, so I hope that works in getting more people! *crosses fingers* For those who teach group fitness classes, have you ever had this problem? Any tips on how to keep people coming back?

*UPDATED 5/14/17: So those two weeks were really weird because the weeks after that (up until now) I’ve had steady numbers of 9-11 students! So I think it’s just a process of new people trying it out, or people being really busy that week, that made the numbers fluctuate so much. But so far my classes have been fairly consistent, and really fun! It’s nice when you can establish regulars and introduce new people to POP Pilates 😉

Dark Bloom Haul!

It’s extremely gloomy and gray today, so getting my POPFLEX in the mail early really brightened my day! I rushed to open each package and tried everything on. I noticed that the sizing changed pretty drastically from the Mermaid to Dark Bloom, as everything ran smaller than before (like with the Wishing Star Capris that I reviewed HERE).

*DB: Dark Bloom

img_1893

POPFLEX haul (starting from left top): Curious Crop top, Heartstring bras, Zenith Zip bra, Flyaway run short, DB Wishing star capri, Adventure Zip leggings, DB POP shorts.

I’ll post better pictures later, but here’s a brief review of my haul:

img_1888

Enchanted shrug in Plum + DB Zenith Zip bra + DB POP shorts

I tried the bottoms on first! Everything fit as expected, as I went a size up (size 8) and it was pretty comfy. The color of the Dark Bloom print, along with the cabernet Adventure Zip leggings were so pretty!

The black tank (Victorious Tank in night) fit pretty well, and I like the soft material that it’s made out of. The Adventure Zip leggings surprisingly fit kinda snug vs the Your Royal Highness leggings (that I reviewed here ) in the same size, which I thought was weird. The Zenith Zip bra is probably my favorite bra out of the bunch, as I don’t have to do my usual contortion act to get my broad shoulders over the straps. Just zip up and I’m good to go.

img_1896

Here is an overall kinda quick review 😉

*something to note* Whatever has the Dark Bloom print has a similar material to the BodyPOP watercolor shorts, so it feels slippery and smooth.

BRAS

  • Heart Strings bra (night, cabernet, DB) size 4
    • A little bit tight. If you have wide shoulders and a small bust, I would size up. Overall it fits my small chest (size 34A), but I had a difficult time getting it over my shoulders. What’s frustrating is that I was a size 4 in their previous collection (Peony, that bra was my favorite!) but according to this picture, there is a bit of a width difference:
    • img_1892
  • Zenith Zip bra (size 4)
    • again, fits my boobs but a bit tight around my shoulders.
    • Also feels a bit tight around the arm pit area.
    • Love the zipper, which reduces my struggle to put on/remove the bra by A LOT.
    • Print is amazing, as usual.
    • I recommend sizing up, especially due to the tight arm pit area.

TOPS

  • Victorious Tank in night (size 6)
    • Comfy and soft, felt pretty true to size
    • I like the swooping, curved hemline at the bottom.
    • The deep V cut lets you show off your sports bra without being too hoochie mama (lol).
  • Curious Crop Top (size 6) in DB
    • Glad I went up a size, as I figured my wide shoulders would cause issues.
    • The neckline is pretty tight, so I recommend sizing up
    • No zippers or clasps, so pulling this on was no minor feat!
    • makes my arms/shoulders look pretty good
    • Once it’s on, it’s super pretty and the straps are wide and sturdy–I can probably do PIIT28 in this and have everything stay in place (though I’m small-chested so I can’t speak for different chested girls)

BOTTOMS

  • Adventure Zip legging (size 8) in Cabernet
    • a little snug than the Highness in size 8, but fit well
    • love the POCKETS and the fact that I can unzip the leggings whenever I need to take them off!
  • Fly Away Run short (size 8) in DB
    • Definitely go a size down! The band is stretchy but pretty wide. I need to exchange mine for a smaller size.
    • I love the design of the shorts and how they look like flower petals 🙂
    • The material is similar to surf shorts (quick to dry, light, and stretchy)
    • The shorts don’t have a liner (the part that looks like underwear) so if you need more cover, you can wear black POP shorts or compression shorts underneath
    • Read the Stylist tips on the product page–the drawstrings are long so you can cut and customize it to the length that you want.
  • Wishing Star capris (size 8) in Dark Bloom
    • true to size, comfy
    • They’re beautiful, that’s all I can say.
    • I love that the wishing star parts of the capris are made out of the DB print, too!
    • The only downside: NO POCKETS 😦 they’d be perfect if they had pockets. Oh well.

Dark Bloom Ch. 2 RELEASE

I was so excited this morning because POPFLEX released Part 2 of their Dark Bloom collection today! I was so worried items would sell out, but fortunately, I was able to get the pieces that I wanted…I kind of killed my wallet, but my heart is excited and happy to wear them to future POP classes! Here is my haul:

img_1863

Of course, I had to buy ALL the Dark Bloom print stuff! I feel like it’s my favorite print so far in the BodyPop/POPFLEX collections. I also forgot to add this pic, but they made a beautiful Zenith Zip bra:

screen-shot-2017-02-07-at-4-21-29-pm

Look at how cute that is! Now there’s a sports bra that I won’t have to contort myself out of XD. One thing to note is that the backing is sheer, so we’ll see how supportive they are.

They also brought out shiny capris and zip bras:

And for some reason, only the Shiny Capris have POCKETS! :\ I was in such a rush to get my stuff I didn’t even notice it had pockets lol. Oh, and another new thing is their running shorts:

screen-shot-2017-02-07-at-4-22-18-pm

They look like flower petals!

Phew! Did some serious retail therapy today. I can’t wait to review them all and show you guys! If you’re interested in checking out more Dark Bloom stuff, click HERE 😀 If you do buy any pieces, let me know!

Teaching POP at 24hr Fitness

So I haven’t posted about it yet, but I recently got a job with 24 Hour Fitness in Windward City (Kaneohe, HI) and I had my first class yesterday! I was soooo nervous this weekend and studied really hard, but was scared that I was going to blank out. Thankfully, I went to class prepared. Future POP instructors, here are some tips!

fullsizerender-19

Bring a bag with:

  • extra batteries (depends on the mic transmitter–might be AAA or a 9 volt)
  • aux cord
  • adaptors
  • windscreen for your mic
  • Tune belt (I bought mine directly from their online store. While Amazon sells it for $2 cheaper, Tune belt shipped my vertical microphone transmitter SUPER fast. It got to me in less than a week–which is saying something because they sent it all the way from Ohio to Hawaii in 5 days! Thank you, Tune belt for being awesome!)
  • chapstick
  • Extra speaker
  • and don’t forget your POP bracelet!

Oh, and I also brought a little notecard with the names of tracks and moves I would preview between each track. It helped me immensely when I forgot which track came after what (only got confused with the back/obliques tracks).

My class was at 7PM, so I got there at 6:30PM to scope out the place and get my sign-in fingerprint sorted out.

ThudThudThudThud

My heart pounded quickly in my chest as I glanced at my watch.

6:50pm.

I stood outside the packed GX classroom, hearing the hyped up music through the glass entrance doors.

img_1804

My throat felt so dry, I kept having to take small sips of water every few minutes, hoping that I wouldn’t have to pee during the middle of class. How many people would show up?! I knew my Group X Manager would attend, which made me even MORE nervous! I always have this fear of failure nagging at the back of my mind.  This post, which I saw earlier in the day, gave me courage:

fullsizerender-21
The caption was so fitting, too. POP Pilates Official posted this on their Insta and wrote:

“Taking risks is scary. What if you don’t make it? What if you fail? Well, what’s even scarier is staying in the exact same spot. Not changing. Not getting better. So TAKE that risk. It’s worth the change.”

Love it. With this picture and those words in mind, I reminded myself to BREATHE and change that fear into excitement. Feeling powerful in my POPFLEX gear (Your Highness leggings and POP Army tank), I walked into the GX room. Thankfully the Group X Manager helped me set up the mic and stereo, so I was set to go in no time.

I quickly introduced myself to the small group scattered about the room, giving them a brief intro to what POP Pilates is and what to expect.

Here we go, I thought as I started up my music.

And you know what? Everything flowed! Because I’ve been practicing the different tracks for so long, each move/cue/modification came to me pretty easily. While I needed to take a quick peek at my note card, it didn’t hinder the flow of the class. I smiled as much as I could (even though everyone looked mostly tired lol) and tried my best to encourage them to do their best. I noticed I needed to modify for the more advanced moves, like the teaser and plank jack combos. (which was perfectly fine with me because it gave me a break, too). I think the best moment is when I glanced at one my students, beamed a smile at them, and they smiled right back! 😀 I had lots of fun, and I’m hoping they did, too.

At the end of the class, my Group X manager (who’s so awesome for taking my first class) gave me positive feedback and said that I was very “cutesy” and liked how I was always smiling and offered modifications. SWEET! While she won’t be able to take all of my classes, I appreciate how she took the time out of her busy schedule (of running ALL the GX classes on the island! and probably more!) to show me around the gym and take my first class.

I was so excited that I forgot to take a group picture! *facepalms* so I just took a post-POP selfie:

img_1808

first day: COMPLETE

I’m so glad my first class went as well as it did. I think it’s so cool to have followed this format since 2011–back when I was just following along to Blogilates’ YouTube videos in my dorm room –to this point, 6 years later: a POPster turned POP Pilates instructor teaching in a gym! How crazy is that?

I am so excited for next week!

New Dark Bloom Feb 7th!

February 7th is the big day!

fullsizerender-20

I’m so excited!!

Part 2 of Dark Bloom is coming February 7th—and I CAN’T WAIT. I hope we get some printed running shorts, and those BEAUTIFUL wishing star capris in that Dark Bloom print! I already love the pieces they have now, so I’m bracing my wallet for the 7th!

If you’d like to check out the POPFLEX that is out now, click HERE!

PIIT 3.0 is HERE!

I was so excited to see this e-mail sitting in my inbox:

img_1772

And because I’ve been following the program, they gave us PIITsters the link to buy before releasing it to the public (February 7th)! I was so excited to try it out, I did all four rounds of 3.1: Dynamic Body! It was INTENSE with new and challenging moves that targeted my obliques, butt, shoulders, abs–basically everything! I loved it so much that once I was done, endorphins were rushing through me–I felt like I could’ve ran a marathon or something with all the leftover energy brimming in me! XD It’s silly but it really was like a runner’s (or PIITsters?) high!

The PIIT28 3.0 e-book comes with a brand new Instagram challenge (are we seriously on day 112??! Did I miss a bunch of days??! lol), quick flat belly tips, and how to maintain your goal body, and new videos to follow along with in the PIIT portal! I love that they added breakdown videos for the moves, so we don’t have to figure it out as we actually workout.

Because 3.0 is crazier than PIIT 1.0 and 2.0, you HAVE to do 1.0 and 2.0 first as prerequisites before doing 3.0. I mean, look at my sweaty, post-PIIT face:

img_1771

PIIT 3.0 is no joke, you guys

So if you’ve done 1.0 and 2.0 and are looking for something new and challenging, try 3.0 with me! And for those who still want to join in on the fun, click HERE to get 1.0 😉 Feel free to add me on Instagram (@mintelates) so we can cheer each other on in our fitness journeys!

Btw, I’m LOVING the Dark Bloom outfit Cassey is wearing in the PIIT28 3.1 video:

screen-shot-2017-01-26-at-10-13-52-pm

This is the last page of the PIIT3.0 e-book –LOOK at how beautiful that pose and those capris are!!

These sneak peeks are just so cruel lol. I want everything DarkBloom POPFLEX! Hoping they’ll be released soon!

POPFLEX Your Highness leggings review

screen-shot-2017-01-09-at-5-37-50-pmThese leggings. are. GORGEOUS. At first I was skeptical, thinking “oh the design kinda looks like other designs that are out there.” but once I put them on and went for a run in them, I fell in love with them. ;P What I love most about the leggings is the fit and design. The material is comfy but keeps everything in place while I went running, and the mesh parts kept my legs cool and ventilated (lol). The design of the mesh cutouts is super cute, and kinda sexy, if I may say so myself. Here are some shots of the mesh design:

img_1652img_1653img_1646

img_1649

I love details. The almost chevron design on the side with the stripe gives the leggings so much movement!

img_1651

I love these, have I said that enough? lol

I think the only con is that these beauties have no pockets 😦 Other than that, they’re my favorite pair so far! Thanks, POPFLEX, for making an awesome pair of leggings. I wish I could wear these every day.

btw they’re called Your Highness leggings because they’re high waisted leggings! So they’re pretty flattering. If you don’t like stuff coming up (or covering) your bellybutton, you can always fold them over if you want.

In regards to sizing: I’m about 128lbs and 5’4″. The size 8 fit me perfectly. Make sure to follow the new size guide! They now run their sizes from XXS to 2X! Isn’t that awesome? 😀 You can check out these leggings HERE, or just click on my new Links menu above!

Beauté wise eyeliner: PIIT28 Tested

One day, I was scrolling through my Insta feed and saw that a brand of eyeliner called Beauté wise was celebrating a milestone and having a giveaway! I thought “why not try?” and submitted my entry. A few days later, I was notified that I won! A $1 dual eyeliner pen that’s smudge/sweat/oil resistant? Yes, please! I quickly bought it and waited for it to arrive in the mail.

img_1013

best. deal. EVER.

img_1042

The packaging is so cute and the pen is so pretty

It’s a dual eyeliner pen, so one side has a thinner pen tip while the other side is thicker:

screen-shot-2016-12-29-at-10-09-21-pm

While I’m not the savviest makeup person, I wanted to see if this makeup could withstand the sweat power of PIIT28 (2.0). I’ve also been looking around for an eyeliner to wear during my POP Pilates workouts, so this was a great find! Here is my before and after picture:

I sweat like crazy during workouts, so this was a real test! It stayed on pretty well throughout the 30 minutes I was huffin’ and puffin’ and sweating my face off. Here’s a before/after close-up of the eyeliner.

Right eye:

Left eye:

It only came off a tiny bit on the left side, but overall, I love how much it stayed on and lasted through my sweaty workout!

This was PIIT28 tested, and PIIT28 approved in my book! 🙂

Thanks so much to Beauté wise for the amazing deal and beautiful dual eyeliner pen ❤ It’s $18 and ships FREE in the U.S.

The importance of stretching

I know we’ve heard this time and time again, whether it’s during a practice or before working out: “You gotta stretch!” I used to roll my eyes, do a few flamingoes and take off running. Recently, or ever since I did my second trial of #journeytosplits, I’ve found how beneficial stretching can be. I feel less stiff and tense the next day, and my performance is way better during workouts, especially during PIIT. I thought, “Hmm how much would it affect my running?”

So I tried Yoga with Adriene’s two videos: her Warm Up Sequence before my run, and

screen-shot-2016-11-12-at-3-16-04-pm her Cool down sequence right after my run:

her Cool down sequence right after my run:

screen-shot-2016-11-12-at-3-26-44-pm

It helps SO much! Normally I feel my back and calves tense up, but since I took the time to stretch and warm up my muscles before running, everything feels a lot more relaxed and I feel more aware of my muscles as I’m running–in the good way, of course! The cool down sequence is also necessary to stretch everything out even more after working them during the run.
